Oklahoma native John Allen released his debut single, “Regret,” which features traditional country storytelling and authentic, relatable lyrics about a past relationship. The singer-songwriter says the song was inspired by his first love. Throughout the track, Allen reflects on the regret he experienced following the relationship.

Heartbreak has been a common theme in country music for decades. However, every once in a while, an artist manages to bring that feeling to life through their music. "Regret" is one such song and marks the beginning of John Allen's recording career.

Allen places an emphasis on the traditional storytelling aspect of country music throughout the song. He tells the story of his first love walking into the bar where he is, causing a flood of emotions and reminding him of what once was. He captures a feeling many people experience after the end of a relationship when he sings,

“Couldn’t lie I wish I never met her…

…then I look in those eyes and I regret I ever left her.”

With his debut single, "Regret," John Allen introduces himself as a songwriter who takes pride in authenticity and creating music that evokes emotion.
