Well, I’m never going to record this one. It’s too personal
Ricky Duran, talented singer/songwriter and The Voice runner up, is not afraid of vulnerability. In his newest song “Waiting On You,” he opens up about his first hand experience with suicide. In 2012, his father took his own life and Ricky "didn’t really know how to cope with it." So he did what every songwriter does their emotions - poured them out into a song.
The song,“deals with the effects that suicide has on the family members and friends who are left after,” says Ricky in an interview with Fox31 Denver. In the same interview, he noted that this was a hard song to release. However, Ricky’s braveness is helping those effected by suicide all over the world. He wanted to help raise awareness by releasing the song during Suicide Prevention Month and contributing 50% of the song sales to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
"Your struggle, it might just help somebody through their their own problems. I kind of just opened up as an artist and decided to tell my story." Ricky’s heart for advocating for others is clearly shown in all of his music. He continues to craft songs that are true to himself and his passion - no matter the level of vulnerability that it takes. “Waiting on you” is available on all major streaming services.
