The Grammys Big Winners and Biggest Snubs

The 68th Annual Grammy Awards concluded last night and there where some shockers, some broken hearts and many tears shed. The Grammys brought a lot of excitement, reflection, and hope for the future of the music industry with a lot of new artists being introduced and a lot of older artists coming back out of the framework. Let's dive in!

Biggest Winners

Kendrick Lamar was, once again, a big winner at The Grammys with him taking home 5 Grammy Awards including Record of the Year "Luther" alongside SZA, Best Rap Album "GNX" and Best Rap Song "TV Off". He also became the most successful rapper with the most Grammy wins ever with 27 wins, just beating out Jay-Z who was the previous record holder with 25 Grammy wins. Bad Bunny also entered the fold as he would go on to win Best Album of the Year with his smash hit album, "Debí Tirar Más Fotos". This album was historic because it is the first time a fully Spanish-speaking album has won the Album of the Year award. In addition to this, Bad Bunny won Best Música Urbana Album for "Debí Tirar Más Fotos" and Best Global Music Performance "EoO", bringing his total to 3 Grammys. One that wasn't in the spotlight as much but Turnstile won 2 Grammys last night including Best Rock Album "NEVER ENOUGH" and Best Metal Performance "BIRDS". Finally, Jelly Roll had a massive night winning 3 Grammys including Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Shaboozey, Best Contemporary Country Album "Beautifully Broken", and Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song alongside Brandon Lake.

Biggest Snubs

To start off, Tyler, the Creator, JID and Clipse got major-league snubbed with Rap Album of the Year. They once again handed a Grammy to Kendrick Lamar for a, at best, ok album in "GNX". Tyler, the Creator was snubbed the biggest for just winning a Grammy for his albums artwork, not his music, which should have been the one that won a Grammy. JID put out some of his best work and it did not get recognized for anything. But at least Clipse won something for Best Rap Performance. Another person who got snubbed was Sabrina Carpenter who went 0-6 last night, winning absolutely nothing which was a big time shocker for a lot of music critics and fans alike. Compared to last year where she won 2 major Grammy Awards in Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album. She lost to the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny and Lola Young. The final person who got snubbed didn't even get nominated for The Grammys at all. The Weeknd had seemingly repaired his relationship with the Grammys after being snubbed on multiple different occasions. Fans thought that he would, at the very least, get a nod from the Grammys. But apparently not. He did submit his album,"Hurry Up Tomorrow", and got no love from The Grammys. A lot of Weeknd fans and probably The Weeknd were understandably furious over this as a big hit from the album , "Timeless" featuring Playboi Carti was massively successful and the album in general was massively successful.

Biggest Surprises

There were a good amount of surprises last night. One of them being new artist Lola Young having a massive upset victory over the likes of Sabrina Carpenter, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Chappell Roan for Best Pop Solo Performance for "Messy". She was only nominated for 2 Grammys, one of them being Best New Artist, which she lost to Olivia Dean. But she was able to snag a Grammy before the night was over. This was her first ever Grammy, and a pretty good first Grammy if I had to say so. Another big surprise was Billie Eilish winning Song of the Year. There was some extremely tough competition with the likes of Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter, Bruno Mars and Rosé, Kendrick Lamar and the cast of K Pop Demon Hunters. Eilish has a long history of being snubbed or losing to others throughout her career, so seeing her be able to win a big Grammy like this was surprising. Especially this year with such tough competition.
