When you think of country music, you probably think of beer, whiskey, and cowboys. But there’s one thing that goes along with all these elements, and that’s heartbreak. Country music is known for some of the most gut-wrenching break-up songs, and the latest addition to that list is “We Had It Made,” by Chris Erasmus. On August 29, the Americana country artist released his newest single, diving deep into the hardship of moving on from a passionate young romance.

Addressing both the highs and lows of a relationship, the hit explores “Memories and happy days, lonely nights, and reflection,” said Erasmus. With the same energy as classic country heartbreak songs like “What If I Never Get Over You,” “Picture,” and “What Hurts the Most,” it’ll have you thinking about you ex non-stop.

Chris does an incredible job of balancing both the yearning and appreciation for a love that was never destined to last. The song is both beautifully accepting and deeply longing. Originally created as an up-tempo track, Chris and producer Scott Jacoby made a complete 180, shifting to a slow, mellow tempo to execute the perfect ballad. With it’s powerful storytelling, organic vocals, and vulnerable lyricism, it’s certain to take place among country legends.
